Maps Apple has ditched Google Maps for its own in-house version. It includes vector-based 2D elements, 3D maps, turn-by-turn navigation, and traffic conditions. It was just the other day that a friend of mine noticed all of his Picasa albums were set to public. We went in to try and make them private, but it turns out that each album had to be done individually. And, when you have 87 albums it makes it nothing short of a long and annoying afternoon; after marking the first 10, we gave up with doing it manually....

Rachio 3 The Rachio 3 unit is very unassuming. It’s much smaller than the old-fashioned type controllers, and there’s just an unobtrusive dial on the left side, and color LED across the middle. While you can manually control some functions from the unit, that’s not the purpose of the system. The Rachio 3 unit replaces your current controller, which is probably the old-fashioned type that uses a dial and buttons with a small LCD....

Immediately after that announcement, Apple launched the U2 album and it was put into everyone’s cloud-based iTunes account, whether you asked for it or not. Even if you didn’t download it, the album showed up in your Purchased music list. That means the album shows up on all of your iOS devices and in iTunes for Mac and PC. Today Apple launched a webpage that allows you to remove the album you didn’t want in the first place....

Why Root? Two reasons. The first is that you can run certain apps that require root to offer full functionality. A good example of this is Avast! Mobile Security, which requires root for half of it’s security features to work. First go to Settings»General and tap on Keyboard. Tap Dictation to enable the feature. Now whenever the keyboard shows up on the new iPad, you’ll also have the option to dictate what you want typed. Simply tap the microphone key and say what you want to type. When finished, tap the microphone again and your text will show up on the screen.
